![]() Now I did say that the Mac does not use RDC and hence a Windows (or other) computer cannot use RDC to connect to a Mac. (Apple's VNC software is built-in and can be both a client and a server.) Most VNC clients are free of charge although many VNC servers are not. It is possible to get a VNC client for Windows and use that connect to a Mac. Remember the Mac operating system is based on top of a form of Unix operating system so also has a purely text based interface which normal users do not see.Īs such a Windows (or other) computer cannot use the RDC protocol to connect to a Mac. Note: Remote Login on a Mac is a totally different thing, it is a text based SSH connection only. (This applies to both 'Screen Sharing' and 'Remote Management' on a Mac.) Microsoft's version uses Microsoft's own proprietary RDC protocol but Apple's equivalent uses a modified version of the opensource VNC standard. Apple include a similar feature to Microsoft's 'Remote Desktop Connection' but whilst similar it is not identical or compatible. ![]()
